Awards and Protocols
Although our physicians and specialists have earned some of the nation’s most prestigious honors and awards, we believe success is best measured one patient at a time. After all, everything we do is built on a heart-felt commitment to care that inspires us to be at our best when our patients need us most.
Setting the pace with innovative protocols and procedures
We are committed to improving every aspect of a patient’s experience during – and even before – their stay at HSHS St. John's Hospital.
Our Epiphany wireless system allows first responders to send EKG readings and other information directly to our physicians’ mobile phones. It’s a time saving technology that also saves lives, and helps reduce our door-to-balloon time for heart attack patients to one of the country’s best.
Prairie Heart physicians were the first in the U.S. and the seventh in the world to successfully complete a procedure to implant a medical device, known as a Lotus™ valve, in a patient with an existing artificial heart valve.
In March 2015 St. John's was the first hospital in Illinois to receive the Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence for its cardiac catheterization lab. ACE is the global leader in external quality review services for all catheter-based cardiovascular procedures.
Physicians at the Prairie Heart Institute were the first in Central Illinois to offer patients suffering from mitral regurgitation a new minimally invasive treatment option in November 2014.
