Cost
Providing coated stents to patients is expensive. Prairie Heart Institute will have to absorb a large portion of the cost of providing coated stents because Medicare will cover only a portion of the costs. Most patients would not be able to afford this life-saving technology unless Prairie Heart Institute and St. John's Hospital agreed it was more important to put care before costs.
Other healthcare facilities are unwilling or unable to incur the cost of providing coated stents.
