Mindfulness: Prescription for Stress Relief
If you search the internet for “mindfulness meditation” you will find hundreds of articles about its effectiveness in relieving stress. Studies have indicated that mindfulness – focusing attention on present moment experience in a non-judgmental way – can play an important role in strengthening the immune system, alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety, increasing productivity at work, managing chronic pain and generally decreasing the harmful effects of stress on an individual’s overall health and well-being. This class will give participants a foundation in the practice of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) – a model for stress management developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues for the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine - the oldest and largest academic medical center-based stress reduction program in the world.
Mindfulness: Advanced Skills
These 3 sessions build on the skills presented in the class Mindfulness: Prescription for Stress Relief. Participants will:
* Practice mindful communication using the model of Insight Dialogue;
* Explore the impact of mindfulness on the ways we consume physical nourishment, sounds, speech, and media.
