A transpersonal approach to happiness and inner peace
by Dr. Shyam Bhat, Director, Integrative Medicine, St. John’s Hospital
Beyond the demands of everyday life, behind the masks we wear, lies our truest, most authentic self. Integral Therapy is a form of transpersonal therapy that guides you toward the discovery of your innermost self, the core of your being that exists behind all your defenses. When we are exposed to trauma, however subtle or dramatic, we construct a barrier. These psychological barriers (defenses) prevent us from experiencing the true, pure joy of life.
If you’ve ever felt like your life is good, but you are still vaguely dissatisfied, anxious, bored or mildly depressed, you might be a victim of inauthenticity. Integral self therapy is a carefully graded transpersonal group approach to achieving the authentic self. It has its theoretical foundations in the work of humanistic psychologists such as Maslow, and Rogers, self psychologists such as Kohut; existentialist philosophy, Assagioli’s psychosynthesis, and Jungian psychology as well as Eastern approaches to health and healing, including Zen meditation and yoga.
The group is limited to 12 participants and includes prescribed exercises, meditation and group interaction.
